From the Mic to the Marketplace

Jesse Itzler's career path is anything but typical. Starting out as a rapper, he signed with Delicious Vinyl records and even wrote and performed the iconic New York Knicks anthem, "Go NY Go." He parlayed his success in the music industry into entrepreneurship, co-founding Alphabet City Sports Records, which created theme songs for professional sports teams and was later sold to SFX.

His true breakthrough, however, came in the world of business. He co-founded Marquis Jet, one of the first and largest private jet card companies. The company's innovative approach allowed clients to purchase a set number of flight hours on private jets, making private travel more accessible.

Marquis Jet was a massive success, eventually selling to Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. Itzler would later partner with Zico Coconut Water, helping to grow the brand before its sale to The Coca-Cola Company, and become a part-owner of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.

This was my biggest lesson from running a 100 mile race.. | Jesse Itzler | 152 comments
This was my biggest lesson from running a 100 mile race.. And honestly.. it applies to life too. 👇 I spent months training for a 100 mile race called The Last Man Standing But I couldn’t get past one number… 38. The race rules were simple Run a 4.2 mile loop every hour If you finish early you rest until the next hour starts Last runner standing wins I trained hard but I kept hitting a wall at 38 miles Over and over I'd go home and tell my wife “I just can’t do it. I can’t get past 38.” Then I heard a podcast with Ex Navy SEAL Chadd Wright He said he once helped a first time runner complete 100 miles using just one mantra: “I will not quit.” No hacks Just headspace. I reached out and we spoke for five minutes He said: “I can fix this in two days.” Two days… To beat a wall I couldn’t break in six months ??? A week later Chadd shows up Didn’t say much or give advice Not a single word of strategy was ever mentioned.. My friends kept asking: “What’s he doing?” And I would tell them “He hasn’t said a word…. he’s sitting in the corner stroking his beard.” Then finally he speaks (Thick Georgia accent) “Maaaaan tomaraw we gon’ map out the strategy to double your training runs “Wake up at 4:45 and start runnin at 05:00” No science or breakdown. Just… do. The next morning He gave me one rule When he asks how I’m feeling just say: “I feel outstanding.” That’s it. And somehow… it worked We didn’t run 39 or 40 miles We ran 50 miles That was the day I learned Your self talk is either a wall or a weapon What you say becomes what you believe What you believe becomes what you do Stop saying “I can’t” Stop talking like a quitter Start telling yourself the version of the story that wins Months later Chadd ran the Hennepin 100 Mile Race with me. I hit a few walls… but we broke them and finished the race. Because I finally understood that the most powerful voice on the course is your own. | 152 comments on LinkedIn

I thought I was about to create the next baseball legend.. | Jesse Itzler | 108 comments
I thought I was about to create the next baseball legend.. Turns out my son had a very different idea.. I signed my son Lazer up for his first season of Little League… I ran to Dick’s and bought everything you could imagine Bats… Gloves… Bases… This was gonna be awesome. I set everything up in the backyard. It looked like a training facility. Then I ran inside to grab my son He was playing Fortnite… Didn’t even look up After some convincing he came out.. He looked around and saw all the gear… Then walked back inside without a word. But I wasn’t giving up that easy Every day we practiced. Every day he asked me to stop. But I thought that he’d love it as soon as he was on the team. He didn’t. After a few practices… still nothing Then came opening day Coach put him in right field and he asked, “Where’s right field?” By inning 3, he was picking grass and throwing dirt in the air which blew directly into the stands and hit the parents. And right there.. it hit me. This wasn’t his dream… It was mine. Parenting isn’t about turning your kids into mini versions of you. It’s about helping them figure out who they are even if it looks nothing like what you imagined. On the ride home he told me he wanted to try an entrepreneurship class. Before we pulled into the driveway, I signed him up from my phone He loved it He joined a team called Cookie Master and designed their logo.. For the first time in weeks I saw him light up. That was the moment I stopped pushing… And started supporting We all know people carving their own paths Friends… Siblings… Partners… Sometimes we think we know what’s best But it’s not our journey. The best thing you can do for someone you love is to stop steering and start standing beside them... Let them chase what matters to them Not what matters to you. | 108 comments on LinkedIn
